If you are wondering what to pack for Queenstown in winter, here is my simple and practical travel packing list based on my recent trip.
Queenstown is known for its beautiful scenery, but the weather can be cold, especially during winter months. That means warm layers are essential, along with a few travel basics to stay comfortable and organised.

What I packed for Queenstown
Here is my simple winter packing list:
🧥 Puffer jacket for warmth x3
🧥 Woollen coats for layering x2
🧣 Warm clothing layers (easy to mix and match)
🧢 Woolly hats for cold mornings and evenings
🧤 Gloves for extra warmth
🥾 Comfortable walking boots for sightseeing
👕 Basic clothing for layering
🧴 Travel-size toiletries
📱 Phone, charger, and power bank
👜 Foldable bag for extra items or shopping
I’ve left out summer items like swimwear, as winter in Queenstown is all about warmth and comfort.
Queenstown winter packing tips
When packing for Queenstown, the key is layering. The weather can change during the day, so it helps to wear clothing you can easily add or remove.
A warm jacket, good footwear, and simple essentials will go a long way.

It all worked well in the end, even if I did try to fit a few extras into Basker’s suitcase!
A good packing system really does make travel easier.
