When we first came to Goa in 1982 we stayed in a hippie coco hut on Anjuna Beach in North Goa and we loved it. Today we stay at The Leela Resort, South Goa, and we love it more!! For us, Goa is all about the beach, sun and sand.
We also love to dine by the pool and sample top quality cuisine at one of the hotel’s fine restaurants. It is the perfect winding down experience after a hectic sightseeing schedule. My preference is to simply relax within the hotel complex or on the beach, get waited on and sip feni at sunset.
However, there are other things to do which I could perhaps check out next time if I can pry myself off the beach lounger for long enough to brave the traffic.

🌴 Things to Do in Goa
Goa is perfect for slowing down and soaking it all in. Here are some things you might enjoy:
Long, Lazy Beach Days: Pack a towel, a book, and take your pick of beaches — from the lively Baga and Calangute to the peaceful sands of Agonda and Palolem. Ideal for swimming, strolling, or doing absolutely nothing.
Basilica of Bom Jesus: A UNESCO World Heritage Site and important pilgrimage church, the Basilica of Bom Jesus is one of the oldest churches in Goa. It houses the tomb of St. Francis Xavier, a missionary whose body is said to be remarkably well-preserved. Pilgrims from all over the world visit to pay their respects. The church itself is over 400 years old, beautifully built in baroque style, and full of history. You don’t need to be religious to appreciate the peaceful atmosphere and impressive architecture.
Spice Plantation Tour with Lunch: Several plantations in the Ponda area (such as Sahakari Spice Farm and Tanshikar Spice Farm) offer guided walks where you can see cinnamon, pepper, cardamom, nutmeg, and more growing naturally. Most tours include a simple Goan-style lunch — tasty and fresh. Best to ask your hotel to recommend one or help book.
Konkan Explorers: Try kayaking or a boat ride through the mangroves — very relaxing and scenic.
Terra Conscious Tours: Join a responsible dolphin-watching trip and learn a bit about Goa’s marine life.
Madame Rosa’s Distillery: A quirky and fun stop to taste and buy traditional feni – Goa’s famous local liquor made from either cashew fruit or coconut sap. It’s strong and definitely an acquired taste, but well worth a try while you’re here. You can learn a bit about how it’s distilled and even pick up a bottle or two as a souvenir. Some distilleries, like Madame Rosa’s, also offer a little insight into the local methods and a chance to chat with the makers.
Goa Tourism: Check their website for up-to-date activities, heritage walks, and more.
Yoga Retreats: Great spots around Goa offer yoga classes, retreats, and wellness packages — always check recent reviews first.
