Keeping a blog feeling fresh doesn’t have to be hard. Even small updates can make your readers feel like your site is alive and current. Here are three simple ways to keep your content lively:
1. Update Old Posts with New Photos or Information
Sometimes a post is still useful, but it could do with a refresh. Adding new photos, correcting details, or updating event dates can make it more relevant. For example, I usually update my Spring Blooms post each year to include the latest dates for flower shows, and then I republish. This year I didn’t get a chance to do it because of the flu, and all too quickly I missed the blossom season—oh dear!
Luckily, I was in Japan last year for the season. You can read more about that trip here.
A few tips for updating old posts:
- Decide whether to republish or keep the original date: Republishing will move the post to the top of your blog, which can bring more attention. Keeping the old date preserves your content history but won’t appear as “new” in feeds. Choose based on whether the update is minor (keep the old date) or major (republish).
- Be clear with readers: If the post is updated, you can add a small note like “Updated for 2025” to let readers know it’s current.
2. Share Personal Stories Behind Recipes or Projects
Readers love getting a peek behind the scenes. A short story about why you chose a recipe, a funny mishap in the kitchen, or a snapshot from your day can make your posts more relatable. Even a one-paragraph note can add warmth and personality.
3. Include Little “Life Notes” From Your Hobbies
A few sentences about what you’ve been working on—mosaics, baking, gardening, or travel plans—keeps your blog personal and engaging. It doesn’t have to be long. Even a 5-minute update can make your blog feel alive again.
Keeping your blog fresh doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Even small updates—new photos, short stories, or little life notes—can make a big difference. Why not take a few minutes today to revisit one of your older posts? Update a detail, add a photo, or share a short story.
