Yes, I admit it—I keep an old photo of myself at my heaviest right on my desk. Not tucked away in a drawer. Out in plain sight. It’s not there to shame me (heaven knows we don’t need more of that), but more as a little nudge. A reminder.
I’m getting ready for a big trip in November—off to Sri Lanka!🧳 I’m excited, and like always, I want to feel good in my clothes and not spend the whole time tugging at zippers or avoiding the camera. I’ve got some lovely things in my travel wardrobe that I’d love to fit comfortably again. Light cottons, loose tops, and several pairs of Katmandu travel pants I refuse to give up on.
Does the photo help? Honestly… probably not in the way I thought it would. I don’t look at it and suddenly put down the biscuit. But it does give me a little pause. A focal point. A visual aid that quietly says, “You’ve done this before. You can do it again.”
And as Jane Fonda once said:
“It’s never too late—never too late to start over, never too late to be happy.”
That’s the spirit I’m taking with me. I’m not aiming for perfect. Just a little more energy, a little more room in the waistband, and the joy of travelling comfortably without feeling like I’m dragging myself along.
So yes, the “fat photo” stays—for now. It’s part of the process.
