Easy Feijoa Crumble Dessert to Try Now

It is feijoa season now and with such a plentiful supply it is a great time to enjoy this lovely fruit.

I love to eat fresh feijoas by cutting them in half and scooping out the flesh with a teaspoon but they are even better baked in a beautiful hot crumble dessert. I don’t add sugar to the fruit because I think the crumble topping is sweet enough but it’s optional.

This recipe is easy to prepare in a jiffy. I like to put it together before sitting down to dinner so that it is in the oven cooking away while you are having a leisurely dinner with friends or family.

By the time the main meal is finished up you have a piping hot crumble to pull out of the oven and place on the table while it is still steaming… then pile on the ice cream, yum!

I like the addition of muesli in my recipe because it gives a lovely texture. Choose a nutty variety, perhaps with raisins or sultanas in addition to nuts for extra texture. This is also the reason I use raw sugar.

If by any chance there are any left overs…

…they will make a delicious breakfast heated slightly and served with hot milk.

A golden, crunchy crumble made with tart feijoas, crisp apples, and a wholesome oat and muesli topping. The perfect warm dessert for cooler nights.

Recipe credit: This crumble is inspired by the classic feijoa crumble we all know and love, with my own twist—adding apples for extra texture and topping it off with a crunchy oat-and-muesli blend. I used a toasted fruity muesli for extra crunch and flavour.

Tip: No need to stew the fruit — fresh feijoas and apples bake beautifully as they are. Let them keep some bite!

Serving Suggestion: Best served warm with vanilla ice cream, thick custard, or a dollop of Greek yoghurt.

Ingredients

  • 1–2 apples, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups feijoas, scooped and sliced
  • 1/4 cup water

  • Crumble Topping:
  • 3/4 cup plain flour
  • 3/4 cup rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup muesli (any kind you like)
  • 1/2 cup raw sugar
  • 150g cold butter, diced

Directions

1. Preheat: Heat oven to 180°C (350°F). Lightly butter a medium baking dish.
2. Prepare Fruit: Layer sliced apples and feijoas into the base of the dish. Pour over the water.
3. Make Crumble: In a large bowl, mix flour, oats, muesli, and raw sugar. Add the diced cold butter and rub it in with your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
4. Top & Bake: Scatter the crumble mixture evenly over the fruit. Bake for 20–30 minutes, or until the topping is golden and crisp and the fruit is bubbling around the edges.
5. Serve: Spoon warm portions into bowls and serve with your favourite accompaniment — ice cream, custard, or yoghurt.
