Embracing an Escape from Winter: A Glimpse into Our Recent Adventures in Malaysia

When winter really hit Auckland in August this year 2024, with its dreary rains and chilly temperatures, we thought it was the perfect time for a getaway—especially with flight fares being incredibly affordable compared to our December 2023 and January 2024 travels. Our decision to escape was spontaneous and turned out to be spot-on: we were greeted with warm, even hot, weather and mostly overcast skies, which made it slightly humid but kept the rain at bay.

Saying goodbye to Auckland before boarding.

This quick two-week trip was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with friends and family and enjoy a bit of sightseeing. Although we’d already visited Malaysia this year, (twice in fact!) we shifted our focus a bit. We explored the bustling markets and beautiful temples in Kuala Lumpur, enjoyed delicious meals in Ipoh, and had an overall fantastic time.

Last day in Malaysia, soaking up all the memories before heading back home✈️ #LastDayMalaysia

This post isn’t quite the detailed travel diary you might be used to with me, but rather a brief snapshot of our recent activities. We had plenty of moments where we just relaxed, chatted, strolled through parks, or enjoyed a beer at a local bar—simple pleasures that are part of any everyday experience.

Despite the laid-back nature of our trip, I couldn’t help but notice and capture the vibrant colours around us. So, this video is a collection of photos showcasing some of the wonderful things we encountered along the way.

Hit me up with your most relaxed vacation or winter escape and tell me what you loved about it!

A welcome burst of warmth, colour, and flavour—just the thing for a winter reset. ♡ Janet
