One morning during our trip to India from December 2023 to January 2024, we had a memorable drive from Khajuraho to Jhansi. We were on our way to catch the Shatabdi Express Train to Agra, when we decided to make a spontaneous stop by the Betwa River in Orchha. It was a chilly, foggy morning, and as we drove along, we suddenly spotted a lovely view. We asked our driver to pull over on a bridge so we could take it all in.

In the background, you can see the Orchha Chhatris, a group of 15 funerary monuments. These memorials honor the Bundela-Rajput kings and queens and are set along the banks of the Betwa River. They were built between the 16th and 18th centuries by the rulers of the time.

While earlier that morning we had explored the complex up close and wandered around the grounds, nothing compared to the romantic view from afar. The distant scenery had a majestic, timeless quality, with its imposing architecture looking even more mystical through the fog. We took some photos and enjoyed the serene atmosphere.

Afterwards, we headed to the Bundelkhand Riverside Hotel for lunch. The hotel’s riverside view at the back is one of my favourite spots for a photo. Over the years, we’ve visited this spot a few times, and I couldn’t resist taking one or two more pictures…

It was a lovely day with a hidden gem. Sometimes, it’s the quiet, peaceful moments amid the hustle and bustle that take your breath away. Have you experienced something similar while traveling? Maybe you were tired and just needed a moment to pause? Safe travels and happy exploring! Namaste, Poituvaren!
