Garden Walk: Domain Wintergardens, Auckland/Tāmaki Makaurau

We came to the Domain Wintergardens this weekend with friends from Wellington who were visiting us for a few days. This is always a favourite place to come and enjoy the beautiful gardens in such a lovely setting. Occasionally we see weddings and always we see people taking tons of photos. But now both of the glasshouses are closed for refurbishment and seismic strengthening. A notice on the exterior of the building mentions it will be closed for 18 months. Keep an eye on the updates here.

Location: Wintergarden Road, Parnell, Auckland

Opening Hours:

  • 1 April – 31 October – Monday to Sunday 9am – 4.30pm
  • 1 November – 31 March – Monday to Saturday 9am – 5.30pm and Sunday 9am – 7.30pm
  • Admission is free

The two Victorian glasshouses were opened in 1913 and one houses beautiful and rare tropical plants while the other one has ever changing displays of seasonal blooms.

I am sure these historic structures will come back even more beautiful.

In the meantime, while we are waiting for this treasure to be re-opened I have included some of my favourite photos from last year and a brief video of my walk here.
