Overnight oats are one of my go-to breakfasts. They’re quick to prepare, full of goodness, and best of all — no cooking needed! Just stir everything together the night before and breakfast is ready by morning.
This version includes mashed banana, which adds natural sweetness and a creamy texture. It’s also a great way to use up bananas that are looking a little too ripe.
🥣 What Are Overnight Oats?
Simply put, it’s rolled oats soaked in liquid (like milk or plant milk) overnight in the fridge. By morning, they’re soft and creamy — no stove required.
🛒 Basic Banana Overnight Oats (1 serve):
- ½ cup rolled oats
- ½ cup milk (dairy or plant-based)
- ¼ cup yoghurt (optional but lovely and creamy)
- ½ ripe banana, mashed
- 1 tsp chia seeds (adds fibre and thickness)
- ½ tsp honey or maple syrup (optional – the banana may be sweet enough)
- Toppings: fresh fruit, berries, nuts, or seeds
🍌 To Make:
- In a small jar or container, mash the banana with a fork.
- Add oats, milk, yoghurt, chia seeds, and sweetener if using.
- Stir well, cover, and pop it in the fridge overnight (or at least 4 hours).
- In the morning, give it another stir and add your favourite toppings.
🫙 Tips & Variations:
- Add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for a cosy flavour.
- A spoon of peanut butter or chopped walnuts pairs beautifully with banana.
- You can double or triple the recipe and keep it in the fridge for a few days.
- Frozen berries work well — they thaw overnight and give a nice juicy burst.
💛 Why I Love Them:
Overnight oats are such a simple way to look after yourself. They fill you up, give you energy, and you don’t need to think too hard first thing in the morning.
Let me know if you give them a go — or if you’ve got a favourite flavour combo to share!
