Pick Your Own Strawberries: it Must be Summer in Auckland

Not that it has been very obvious because we have weathered through a sub-tropical storm and a cyclone – Cyclone Hale.

Finally the sun is shining and we came to Good Planet to pick beautiful, large, perfectly ripened strawberries.

More info: Good Planet NZ

Location: 340 Riverhead Road, Riverhead, Auckland

There is a huge parking area, a fun playground for the kids which leads on to a pathway with a little train which will take you all to large strawberry fields full of plump, juicy, sun-warmed strawberries.

There’s a shop where you can purchase fresh fruit ice cream and plenty of places to sit at tables or on the grass to enjoy it. A new restaurant is currently under construction.

We picked 3kg of strawberries and 1 kg of blueberries… the raspberries and blackberries were finished for the season.

We’ll explore recipes but first thing on the list- Strawberry Margaritas!

Recipe

  • 2 cups frozen strawberries
  • 2 cups of ice
  • ¼ cup lime juice
  • ½ cup tequila
  • ½ cups of orange Juice
  • 2 Cups of Ice

For garnish

2 small-medium strawberries and 1 medium lime and rimming salt (optional).

Blend all ingredients in a high powered blender until smooth.

Cut the lime along the edge of the glass and dip into the margarita salt.

Serve immediately.
